Herbs, Homeopathy, and Hemorrhoids

proctologistHemorrhoids are an uncomfortable, sometimes even painful, condition which is caused by the swelling and inflammation of blood vessels and veins in your anus and rectum. There are two primary types of hemorrhoids: Internal and external.

Internal hemorrhoids often cause no pain or discomfort, however they can cause bleeding during bowel movements. External hemorrhoids however, tend to be uncomfortable at best, and sometimes can be quite painful or itchy.

Hemorrhoids can heal on their own naturally, but they’re frequently caused by several factors. One major cause of hemorrhoids is thought to be constipation. If your body is not able to easily pass waste through your anus, you’ll end up straining when using the bathroom. This straining action serves to damage the blood vessels in and around your rectum, creating hemorrhoids. Sitting for long periods of time is also a known cause of hemorrhoids, because sitting reduces the flow of blood to the rectum and anus.

There are several ways you can help reduce or eliminate hemorrhoids naturally though. One of which is to drink plenty of water. When your body doesn’t have enough water, the stools you pass end up being quite hard. This causes damage to the rectum and anus, which in turn can cause a hemorrhoid flare up.

By the same token, not getting enough fiber in your diet will cause similar problems. Your body should produce a solid, easily expelled bowel movement at least once or twice each day naturally. When you don’t get enough fiber however, the stool can harden and get backed up in your system, making it difficult for the colon to expel it properly. This is one of the reason’s people strain when using the bathroom, because there isn’t enough fiber bulk in the colon to help the stool expel naturally.

Additional fiber can easily be added to your daily regimen by simply eating more fresh vegetables and grains. You can also get additional fiber with certain herbs too though: Chlorophyll is an excellent one which helps regulate your bowel movements, Alfalfa is another, and Slippery Elm is an excellent herb to use for cleansing the bowels, colon and digestive tract.

Getting additional exercise or movement into your day is another natural way to help reduce, eliminate, or prevent hemorrhoids too – especially if you’re fairly sedentary, or you have a job which keeps you sitting down all day.

Now, while the above methods are excellent ways to reduce, eliminate and prevent hemorrhoids, many people already have them and are desperately looking for some relief. Particularly relief from the itching, burning sensations that usually occur with external hemorrhoids. So, here’s my favorite herbal home remedy for dealing with hemorrhoids fast:

Open the gel capsules and pour the ground, powdered herb onto a dish. Stir in enough Aloe vera juice to mix everything well. Now, apply this to the hemorrhoids. Within just a few hours the problems will be drastically reduced, if not completely gone. It’s a good idea to apply the mixture before going to bed, then you can wake up to complete relief in the morning.

If you have internal hemorrhoids, the same recipe can be used. You’ll need to insert a small amount of the mixture into your anus however, so that it can reach the hemorrhoids hiding inside.

    Hi,

    Nice informative post!

I have one doubt – You mentioned in the post that chlorophyll, Alfalfa, Slippery Elm are the best herbs to find additional fiber. I am just curious to know where we can find all these herbs. Please reply me.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

Can I tie off my external hemorrhoid with a band so it dies and falls off? Is this safe to do?

  4. admin says:

Actually, that’s a procedure a doctor can do. I wouldn’t try it at home tho . . . I can’t see it working out well.

Thanks for the post. I am a great advocate for using herbs & homeopathy to cure a multitude of ailments, including hemorrhoids. The body is more used to using what god gave us rather than man made chemical medications. That said, there are some hemorrhoid problems which will not go away just using herbal or dietary measures. In these instances Band Ligation or an actual hemorrhoidectomy would be necessary.

Other Herbs such as Aloe ferox act as a natural stool softener and are a gentle remedy for constipation, which is what causes hemorrhoids quite often. Aloe is also widely recommended for inflammatory digestive disorders. Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion) contains bitter principles which have a beneficial effect on the liver and digestive system. In addition, Passiflora incarnata is one of nature’s most well-regarded carminitives, and helps to provide hemorrhoids relief and ease muscle tension in the bowel.

There are also many herbs well known for their beneficial effect on circulation, including Ginkgo biloba, Cratageous oxycanthus, and Gotu cola, while herbal creams can assist with the itching, inflammation, and hemorrhoids relief. Always remember to obtain your natural medicines from a reputable company to ensure maximum safety and efficacy.

  8. A common misconception about hemorrhoids treatment is that it must be an external application (such as a creme) to be effective. While it seems logical at first that since hemorrhoids protrude from the rectal area then surely applying a creme or gel directly to the affected area would be the fastest and best solution.

  10. I’ve had quite some success with the simple method of just upping the amount of fiber in your diet. I add bran to my breakfast, add fresh fruit and yoghurt and drink a couple of glasses of water.

Seems to work for me fine, but it does take some time to take effect.

I’ve have always heard that brown rice is much better for you. It does not have chemicals and impurities in it like white rice does.

For many people today, especially Americans, a large portion of their diets consist of processed foods, which leads to harder, drier stools.

Just a reflection on how a diet can effect our bowel movements; our church went on a 21 day Daniel fast. For the specifics of that diet you can do a search, but the results were that most everyone lost weight and though not exactly the most proper topic of conversation at church, many people commented on the impact the foods had on their bowel movements. Altogether better for your system.

This is an interesting method. I never thought of combining those above to make a great home remedy for hemorrhoids. I want to share several tips that I’ve found and tried from online that’s working quite great:
    - Taking a warm tub or sitz bath several time a day in plain, warm water for about 10 minutes.
    - Eat high-fiber foods. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
    - Reduce eating foods such as pizza, cheese.

I hope it’s useful for you too.

For best results when using herbs, be sure they are organic or wildcrafted as these contain 7-10 times the phytochemicals that prevent and cure diseases.
